It is not part of the Noble Rot wine bars and restaurants in London, which are a separate business. The Bedford bar is on two levels, with antique dark wood inside, a long wine list and a secluded garden, and a 2007 write-up already called Charlie's place the best wine bar for miles around; reviews from late 2025 still single him out. It does not publish its hours online, so call before a special trip. Its most recent food hygiene rating is 4, good, from a Bedford Borough Council inspection on 29 March 2018.
