1. Merri, Oakley
Merri is a family farm on Queens Close in Oakley, about three miles north-west of Bedford. Its website says Julian planted the first 5,000 saplings by hand with his father, sold the first trees straight from the farm in 2018, and replants for every tree cut.
All the trees it grows are Nordmann firs. From 28 November you can turn up without booking, walk the plantation, choose a tree and have it cut on the spot; there are also pre-cut Nordmanns from the end of November, some from another UK grower, from £70 for 6ft.
Earlier in November it runs booked tree-tagging sessions, when you pick a tree and it is cut a few days before collection or delivery. It also sells pot-grown trees, stands and wreaths.
Merri delivers trees of 3 to 10ft within 15 miles of Oakley on set days: Thursday 26 November and 2 December, Friday 27 November and 4 December, Saturday 28 November and 5 December, Monday 30 November and 7 December, and Tuesday 1 and 8 December, with a limited earlier slot on Tuesday 24 November. You walk the fields in wellies, choose a Nordmann fir or Norway spruce from about 2ft to 12ft and over, and the team cuts it down, carries it to the farmyard and nets it for the car.
The farm says a new 19,000-tree plantation opposite the farm buildings starts supplying 5ft Nordmanns this year. It also sells a few potted 3ft Nordmanns, stands, wreaths, logs and its own fruit gins.
Pop-up cafes run in the farmyard on most open days, and last year a Christmas playhouse was added in Spinney Field. It is a member of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association.

Not in this guide
Barton Xmas Trees at Barton-le-Clay was left out: its delivery page still gave last season’s Saturday dates on 5 November and it sells from a private house. Frosts at Willington and the Podington, Roxton and Seasons garden centres had not said online whether they will sell real cut trees this year. The Greensand Trust’s tree sale at Rushmere Country Park, near Leighton Buzzard, had a 2025 listing but no 2026 dates yet. We will add any of these when they confirm.
After Christmas: recycling the tree
Last winter Bedford Borough Council ran eight free drop-off points for real trees, from 30 December to 11 January, including Jubilee Park, Mowsbury Park, Hillgrounds Road in Kempston and the Barkers Lane recycling centre; the trees were composted at Ravensden. The 2026 dates had not been announced on 5 November. Our Christmas bin collections page has the list and will carry the new dates.
How we chose
We started from the farms that people around Bedford search for and that local roundups have listed over several years, then read each seller’s own website, including its online shop where it has one, on 5 November 2026. We kept only sellers that had posted something for the 2026 season and left out those that had not, saying why above. Prices are the seller’s own and can change; where a seller does not publish prices, we say so rather than guess.
